# Pre-Seaming

## What Is Pre-Seaming and When Should You Use It?

### Introduction

When installing large vehicle graphics, fleet wraps, trailers, or other oversized applications, maintaining perfect alignment between panels can be challenging. One technique that can simplify installation and improve image continuity is **pre-seaming**.

### What Is Pre-Seaming?

Pre-seaming is the process of joining two or more printed panels together before the graphic is installed on the vehicle or substrate. Instead of aligning panels during installation, the seams are created beforehand on a work table, allowing the installer to apply a larger, pre-assembled graphic as a single piece.

### Benefits of Pre-Seaming

Pre-seaming offers several advantages:

- Improved image continuity across panels
- Easier verification of registration before installation
- Faster installation times
- Reduced need for adjustments on the vehicle
- More consistent overlap widths
- Fewer opportunities for panel-to-panel misalignment

For fleet graphics, trailers, buses, and box trucks, pre-seaming can significantly improve efficiency and help create a cleaner finished appearance.

### When Is Pre-Seaming Recommended?

 Trailer sides

- Box trucks
- Fleet vehicles
- Flat architectural panels
- Large signs

### Adhesive Considerations

The adhesive characteristics of the film should also be considered before deciding to pre-seam.

Films with **low or medium adhesion levels** are often more forgiving because the installer can reposition and align a large pre-seamed graphic more easily during installation.

In contrast, films with **high initial tack or high-performance adhesives** can become difficult to manage once multiple panels have been joined together. The larger the assembled graphic becomes, the more challenging

 Tips for Successful Pre-Seaming

For best results:

- Verify panel registration before seaming.
- Use a consistent overlap width throughout the graphic.
- Make sure prints are fully outgassed before assembly.
- Avoid stretching the panels while creating the seam.
- Plan seam locations during the design stage whenever possible.

Thoughtful seam placement can make seams less noticeable and improve the overall appearance of the finished wrap.

 Conclusion

Pre-seaming is a valuable technique that can improve registration, speed up installation, and create cleaner-looking graphics on large-format projects. While it is particularly effective on flat surfaces such as trailers and fleet vehicles, installers should carefully evaluate the substrate and the film to be used before deciding whether to pre-seam or install panels individually. Proper planning and registration remain the keys to a successful multi-panel installation
