Can I use the pre-strech and shrink method on flat surfaces?
The short answer is no. Pre-stretch and shrink techniques are only applicable to true 3D shapes such as mirrors, handles, bumpers, and similar components. This technique involves heating and stretching the film approximately 10–25%, allowing it to cool, applying it, and then shrinking out the remaining material during installation.
For flat panels, pre-stretching is not recommended. However, pre-tension can be used. Pre-tension typically consists of a cold or minimally warmed stretch of about 2–5%, which can help the film naturally conform and wrap edges on certain shapes when done correctly.
